Nexus 128
The Nexus 128 is a preclinical photoacoustic computed tomography (CT) scanner for small animal imaging that provides the sensitivity and spectroscopic capabilities of optical imaging with the resolution of ultrasound imaging at depth. Tomographic images of optical absorption may be generated using endogenous and/or exogenous contrast. Photoacoustic CT is suitable for contrast enhanced and molecular imaging applications through the use of near infra-red absorbing dyes or fluorescent probes.

Quantitative In Vivo Tumor Imaging
The Nexus 128 was designed for fast, non-invasive quantification of tumor vasculature in mouse models of cancer. Using only the endogenous contrast of blood, tomographic images of vessels within tumors may be acquired in order to provide parametric maps of hemoglobin concentration (CtHb). These parameters may be tracked longitudinally and provide a quantitative method for studying tumor development and response to therapy. Additionally, photoacoustic CT imaging can be used to image angiogenesis by using targeted molecular probes labeled with optically absorbing dyes.
